15 GB The gastro scene in Odense is flourishing to the extent that Odense is one of the Danish cities with the most quality restaurants per inhabitant. Is historic and romantic right up your alley? Try Under Lindetræet ind the historic quarter with a view of the Hans Christian Andersen Museum through the small paned windows or Sortebro Kro in The Funen Village. Both places exude history and have a high gastronomic level. Odense also offers a large selection of classic bistros. Try the classic French bistro Bacchus, that was among the four nominees for Bistro of the Year in 2016, and No. 61 which won Bistro of the Year in 2014. In White Guide you will also find mentions of among others I Pupi Siciliani (they also received a special distinction from The Italian Chamber of Commerce), Restaurant Pasfall, Sæson Spisested and the more experimental mmoks and Goma. A more informal atmosphere can be found at Gastroteket, Restaurant Fynboen and at Burger Anarchy (Best Festival Burger of 2016), all three situ- ated close to the historic quarter, or at Kong Volmer (open face sandwiches with a modern twist) and Bar Tapas (running tapas) close to the Brandts Quarter. During week 5 every year all of Odense offers a veritable Mecca of quality restaurant offers when EAT! Odense Food Festival hosts the “EAT! Week 5” event and in May we celebrate the first fresh, Funen asparagus and fantastic Funen beer at the annual “Asparagus Lunch”. Should you happen to visit Odense in week 37 you can participate in the EAT! Odense Food Festival all week with an abundance of great gastronomic bargains and several food related events (many in English). If you are visiting Odense, but plan to enjoy the entire island, week 42 is a great time for foodies as restaurants all over Funen unite to shine a spotlight on Funen produce, apples and beer; in particular the especially lovely Funen beer. And speaking of beer, which is a big deal on Funen, where you can find Europe’s largest geographical concentration of breweries, 2017 is going to be an exciting year. In the fall we expect to have a new micro brewery connected to the historic Albani Brewery, enabling the established brewery to experiment with smaller batches of specialty beer. Odense has to be tasted, smelled and enjoyed. Visit us and eat and drink your way through some lovely culinary experiences. We have something for everybody’s taste and we love to entertain.
